About the Artist

Shannon Courtenay is a ceramic artist based in the Cardrona Valley, Aotearoa, where her work is shaped by the stillness and mountainous landscape surrounding her studio. Moving between everyday tableware and conceptual sculpture, her practice centres on texture, time, and the quiet beauty of objects made slowly and with intention.

With a Fine Arts background from Elam, Shannon has explored various mediums, yet consistently returns to clay for its grounded-ness, unpredictability, and strength. Alongside her studio practice, she hosts seasonal workshops and gatherings that connect people with creativity, food, and the land—often held at Kind Farm, the animal sanctuary she is closely involved with.

Shannon’s work draws inspiration from the landscape, the objects we use daily, and the interplay between permanence and fragility. Thoughtful and deeply considered, her practice encourages a pause – an invitation to notice, reflect, and connect.
