With a long history of teaching Art Education, I enjoy teaching art on a limited scale. It is a pleasure to help both young adults and adults move into the discovery of their creative self. Art offers the door to the creative self and can be a great opportunity to express feelings.
In my Cary, NC, studio I offer small classes for up to four young adults and/or adults in a group setting. Each student moves at his or her own rate and works at the appropriate personal skill level while sharing the same time class spot with othr students. The small group gives me ample opportunity to give individual attention to every student.
In my studio I provide each student an easel/work space and develop a individual lesson plan tailored for each student. By working in a small group students get the important advantage of seeing the work of others and hearing the interaction between other students and the teacher. All students provide their own painting materials (paint, brushes, palette, media, canvas or canvas boards). My fee for classes is $100.00 for 4 weeks of class. The class is 1½ hours long. Classes are ongoing and payment is expected at the beginning of each 4 week period.
I also offer classes through the Cary Gallery of Artists. These are more structured, and tend to be on a particular topic or method. For more information visit the classes tab at the Cary Gallery of Artists web site.
I have two master's degrees. The first is in art education and the second in art therapy, and I have a PhD with a concentration in Art Therapy. I taught high school art for fifteen years and spent ten years or more developing and teaching my private art school in Ohio. After completing my doctorate I taught art education and art therapy at Wright State University in Ohio.
